What does undergraduate admission mean? ›

An undergraduate student is a student who is pursuing a degree at the first level of higher education (meaning the level after high school) at a college or university. Undergraduate students are typically those working to earn a bachelor's degree (or, less commonly, an associate's degree).

If you don't pass their SAT/ACT and GPA requirements, they'll likely reject you without much consideration. To have the best shot of getting in, you should aim for the 75th percentile, with a 1450 SAT or a 33 ACT. You should also have a 3.8 GPA or higher.

It is typical for U.S. undergraduate applications to be due between November and January for students who wish to begin courses the following September.

Admissions officers look at “hard factors — GPA, grades, and test scores — and soft factors — essays, extracurricular activities, recommendations, and demonstrated interest — to gain a full picture of applicants.

Graduate studies are more specific, so they have stricter requirements, but the process is relatively simple for both programs. Undergraduate programs require a high school diploma, while graduate ones require a bachelor's degree. The requirements are pretty different for standardized testing as well.

Admission Requirements

You are required to have earned a high school diploma and have a minimum of 2.0 g.p.a. on your college courses to be eligible for transfer admission.

The University of Miami is a fairly selective school, and the average GPA of admitted students in 2023 was 3.8 on an unweighted scale. However, the admissions process can be quite holistic, so a higher or lower GPA doesn't guarantee acceptance or rejection.

When Is It Too Late to Go to College? It is never too late to go to college or benefit from the advantages of a postsecondary degree. Your age does not define your ability to pursue higher education. Whether you're 25, 30, 40, or older, you can still go to college.

The normal age to start college in the United States is 18-19, and the most common degree to pursue is a bachelor's. With this in mind, it's expected that people will finish college with their degree by 22-23.

If you earned an associate degree or are currently working toward earning your bachelor's degree, you're considered an undergraduate. The four years of college have their own designations: Freshmen are first-year undergraduates, sometimes called “first years.” They typically take more general or foundational courses.

In truth, you need close to a 4.0 unweighted GPA to get into Harvard. That means nearly straight As in every class while also taking the highest rigor classes available at your high school.

For every 100 applicants, 25 are admitted. This means the school is very selective. If you meet FSU's requirements for GPA, SAT/ACT scores, and other components of the application, you have a great shot at getting in.

Students must earn a minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) college grade point average in your fall classes with no grade below C.

You select Undergraduate if you're pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree. You select Graduate or Professional Student if you are in a master's or doctorate program such as an M.A., MBA, M.D., J.D., Ph. D., Ed.

Both bachelor's degrees and associate's degrees are categorized as “undergraduate” degrees, meaning that they are both open to students as soon as they complete secondary level education.

They do not become college/university undergraduates until they are accepted and attending the college/university. Then they are undergraduates students of only that specific institution.
